OnePlus is desperate to demonstrate that it’s ‘Dash Charge’ technology will offer OnePlus 5 consumers a much faster charging experience than it’s biggest handset rival- the Samsung Galaxy S8. The company posted two videos on their YouTube channel that show both the OnePlus 5 and the Galaxy S8 in a battery charge comparison in both a car and a normal scenario.
This video shows the OnePlus 5, with its 3,300 mAh battery, in a typical, everyday charging scenario as well as the Galaxy S8 in the same scenario. The S8 has a slightly smaller battery with 3,000 mAh. The video shows that after approximately 15 minutes, the battery on the OnePlus 5 has reached a battery level of 29%, while the Galaxy S8 has achieved a mediocre 20%. After just over 30 minutes, the OnePlus 5 went up to a battery level of 58%, compared to 39% for the Galaxy S8.

The battery charge speed difference is even larger between the two phones when they are shown connected to a car. The second video shows that after about 30 minutes of driving around, the OnePlus 5 has charged 43% of the battery, while the Galaxy S8 has achieved a mere 12% battery level, in the same amount of time and under the same circumstances.
OnePlus first introduced it’s ‘Dash Charge’ battery technology feature in 2016, with the launch of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. The company states that, unlike other solutions that increase the voltage when a phone is connected to a power source, the ‘Dash Charge’ feature increases the amperage. This not only results in a faster charging time, but it also generates less heat through the device (an issue that many users discover with their phone) than other fast charging methods do. The feature does require that the OnePlus 5 use a proprietary adapter and cable that are included in the phone’s box, however.
The Galaxy S8 may have many great features that are not seen on any other handset such as the ‘Infinity Display’, but their fast charging and battery technology cannot beat the standard that a cheaper phone provides.
